How to increase SEO – 6 easy steps
My clients are continually asking me; How do I boost site ranking? How can I improve SEO on my website? What is SEO marketing? And while the answer to these questions is not the same for every site, I have identified six easy steps to explain how to increase SEO.
1 – Keyword Strategy
A good keyword strategy is critical for creating and improving SEO. When using keywords to improve SEO ranking it is important to target keywords that are unique from your competitors. Try to come up with keywords that are specific to your business (ie. location) to help differentiate it from other similar site. Another helpful tip is to put aside what you think your keywords should be and try to think like those that will be searching for content on your site. It is also helpful to make sure your site is searchable through more conversational keyword searches as that is what customers will most likely use. Here are a couple of examples:
USE: Buy cold pressed juice Salt Lake City / DON’T USE: Cold pressed juice
USE: Business to business advertising agencies in San Fransisco / DON’T USE: Advertising agencies
These are both examples of how to improve SEO site ranking through the use of more specific long-tail keywords.
2 – Unique Content
Unique content will help you improve SEO immensely. If Google or any other search engine has reason to believe that you are consistently updating your site with new content it will help to improve SEO ranking of your website. If your content is unique, even slightly, from that of your competitors your site is more likely to rank higher in Google.
3 – Usability
Site usability will help improve SEO score to a certain extent because the easier it is for the search engine to crawl your site the more likely your SEO ranking increases. In addition, if a searcher is able to find the information that they are looking for via a query the better your site conversion rate will be.
4 – Page Load Time
One thing that my clients typically don’t think about when trying to improve SEO ranking is the amount of time it takes for their webpage to load. This is a very important factor in increasing search engine score for two reasons. First, if your page takes too long to load the search bots will immediately leave and not scan/review your site making it impossible to rank on the first few search pages. Secondly, if your page takes too long to load your customer may become frustrated and leave your site which is a negative performance indicator to Google. Page load time is important to consider when trying to improve SEO on Google.
5 – Mobile Optimization
Advancements in mobile technology are shaping the way that websites should be structured in order to increase SEO score. Mobile optimization increases SEO by making it so your site is user-friendly no matter the device that is being used. It is important to implement responsive technology into your site. This means that your site scales based on the size of the screen. It resizes images and text, it may simplify the ordering/checkout process, it may hide some of the features that are better experienced on desktop.
6 – Site Navigation
The navigation elements of your site should be structured in a way that is easy for users to understand. Pages should contain unique content that is specific to the title of the page. It is important to leverage internal linking as this will help keep users engaged on your site and bots will take this as a positive indicator that your site is well organized. Site navigation is also judged by bots that scan websites when determining SEO ranking if they are able to use your site navigation easily chances are it will boost your SEO ranking. It is important that your site is search engine friendly as it will ensure that bots and users alike are happy with the results that your site provides.
